SUSPENSION SYSTEM

The suspension system in the Vanagon is fairly simple and designed to be extremely reliable. However, over time, bushings and cv joints need replacing. In a 25 year old plus vehicle, the time is probably sooner than later that these components will need replacing.

If your Vanagon is squeky, that means it’s time to repalce your upper control arm bushings as well as possibly some other worn out components in the front suspension system. This is a service we do regularly and we are happy to help you upgrade your old German parts with high grade, polyurethane replacements. Designed to last more than a hundred thousand miles, these polyurethane suspension components may be the last the suspension pieces you buy.

In addition to bushings, CV joints should also be replaced especially if you’re planning on adding any kind spring lift kit to your Vanagon. Over time, CV joints and CV boots can wear badly causing clicking while turning or even driving in a straight line in the worst cases. Don’t wait for a CV joint to pop and leave you stranded. Go ahead and get the high grade German Porsche replacements and boogie on down the road worry free.

LIFT KITS: SPRINGS AND SHOCKS

As with everything else on these vehicles, over time parts begin to wear out and need replacing. Shocks and springs are no different. Depending on how you plan on using your Vanagon, we have a list of recommendations we are happy to share with you for how you should set up your springs and shocks.

If you are planning on lifting your vehicle beyond stock height, we highly recommend replacing all the CV joints at that time with the high grade Porsche 944 or 930 CV joints.*

*We will not install the cheap Chinese CV joints for the Vanagon. We have seen too many of these fail in matter of weeks to feel confident in sending our clients down the road with these low grade replacement parts.
